A task force with the Yazoo City Police Department has arrested a shooting suspect who has been on the run from the law for the past four months.
Fernando Weekly has been charged with aggravated assault and parole violation after police officers arrested him at a Benton home. He has been on the run since May in connection to shooting a male victim on Main Street in front of the post office.
Police Chief Kenny Hampton said his task force of six officers located Weekly inside a home at 2366 Mollett Road in the Benton area.
"A little squirrel told us where to find him," Hampton added. "Our task force of six officers hit the home, and there was so way out for him."
Weekly was under house arrest during the shooting incident last spring. After allegedly shooting the victim in front of the post office, Weekly fled the scene, cutting off his ankle monitor from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The victim was airlifted to a Jackson hospital and has since recovered from his injuries.
More details will appear in the next edition of The Yazoo Herald.
