A concerned citizen appeared before the city board to determine if the city’s animal control officer should be responsible for removing animal carcasses within the city limits.
Joanne Harris said an animal carcass has been left by her church on Barnwell Street for a few days.
“This Sunday, when I got to church, there was a carcass laying out there at the church’s side,” she said, during the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. “It had been there for a few days. It wasn’t bad words or anything, but I had a talk with your animal control personnel. I was under the reasoning that he was supposed to collect the animals running loose with no leash on, and he was supposed to pick up the carcasses.”
David Rogers currently serves as the city’s animal control officer.
“It is part of his job description that if there is a deceased animal, it is within his job description that the animal be picked up,” Mayor David Starling responded.
Starling added that the city would address Harris’ concern and take care of the matter.
