For a second straight year, Yazoo County spoiled Amanda Elzy’s homecoming by walking away with a win.
Friday’s 21-18 win set up this week’s battle with Humphreys County as a showdown between the only two teams left unbeaten in the district.
After a defensive battle in the first quarter Yazoo County’s offense started rolling in the second.
Chandler Hardman rushed for three first downs to kick off a drive that ended with Dakwon Reasor powering through the middle for a touchdown.
Cooper Trammell added the extra point kick for a 7-0 lead with 11:22 to go in the second quarter.
Hardman scored to give Yazoo County a 14-0 lead after Trammell nailed his second PAT kick of the night.
It looked like the Panther would take that lead to the locker room, but Jar’Kavion Clemon went deep for a touchdown pass with just 19 seconds left on the clock.
Vinson Woodberry made a stop to prevent the two point conversion attempt, and Yazoo County led 14-6 at halftime.
Reasor opened the second half with a huge first down run to the 25.
Hardman scored his second touchdown of the night for a 21-6 lead with Trammell’s kick.
Amanda Elzy blocked a punt to set up the team’s second touchdown. Once again, the Panthers defense prevented the two point conversion, and Yazoo County led 21-12 with 4:29 in the game.
With a little help from some penalties totaling over 30 yards, Amanda Elzy made one last successful drive, but again failed to add the extra points.
The only hope left was for an onside kick, but Hardman fell on the kick to secure the win.
Hardman finished the night with 22 carries for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
Reasor added 7 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown and had four tackles on defense.
James Patterson completed 2-of-3 passes for 26 yards. Hardman caught a 14-yard pass, and Kesean Outlaw had a reception for 12 yards.
Landon Lucas had five tackles and a sack to help lead the defense.
Rodney Jefferson had four tackles. Kevin Shaffer had two tackles and a sack. Mardarius Allen had two tackles.
This week the Panthers host Humphreys County for a battle between the only two teams left with 2-0 records in the district. Humphreys defeated Thomas Edwards High School out of Ruleville 24-16 last week.
Friday will be senior night for the Panthers.
