Always smiling. Kind. Happy. Joyful. The Steak Man.
These were the words shared by those who knew and loved Rob Saxton upon hearing of his passing last weekend after a tragic vehicle accident. At 48 years old, Saxton was killed in a single-car accident last Sunday.
The accident was reported to 911 at 1:32 a.m. on Highway 3 in Warren County, about a mile from the Redwood community. Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey arrived on the scene, later pronouncing Saxton dead on the scene at 2:28 a.m.
“It appears that the driver left the roadway and overturned several times,” Huskey said. “I pronounced him dead at the scene from blunt trauma.”
Huskey said he believes a passing driver perhaps saw the headlights from Saxton’s vehicle before calling 911 during Sunday’s early morning hours.
“I think somebody spotted his vehicle,” he said.
The news of Saxton’s passing quickly circulated through the local community. He was known for his cooking skills at his family’s former restaurant, Ribeye’s Steakhouse. Often found behind the grill, he was usually the first face the restaurant patrons saw upon entering…and it was always with a smile. He was often called “the steak man,” with many commenting that his steak was the best they had ever had.
But it wasn’t just his kind nature or sense of humor. Saxton is remembered for his willingness to help others. Whether it be a hot meal, a quick laugh or a simple favor, his nature was contagious to those around him.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 23, at Parkview Church under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.
