Alderwoman Elizbeth Thomas has a lot of questions when it comes to active grants within the city of Yazoo City. And wanting clarity on many of her questions and concerns, she said she would like to see a full report at the next city council meeting.
During the recent Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, Thomas had several questions regarding the reimbursement of the purchase of radios for both the city police and fire departments. The purchases were handled through grants, which fall under the umbrella of Alma Jones, the city’s grant manager.
The discussion on the radio purchases led to Thomas jumping ahead on the board agenda to a request that she submitted.
“I want to know if we can have an order to provide a full, detailed financial accounting of all active grants to include all funds received and all funds spent for each grant,” Thomas read from the agenda.
Jones said she has no problem submitting those reports, but she would be unable to provide those details without preparation.
“I have a summary, but I am not the only one who has a piece to that,” Jones said. “A full financial report includes information from (City Clerk Kaneilia Williams), who would have to pull from the bank account. What I have is a summary.”
To provide time to properly prepare for Thomas’ agenda request, Mayor David Starling removed the order.
“But we are going to fulfill that request, right,” Thomas asked.
“Yes,” Jones replied.
