The qualifying deadline for Yazoo County’s upcoming special election has passed with two candidates slated to appear on November’s ballot.
Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said Aug. 31 was the qualifying deadline for the Chancery Clerk post. He added that two candidates will appear on the Nov. 4 special election ballot.
The candidates include April Adams, who was named interim clerk following the resignation of former Chancery Clerk Quint Carver in December of 2024. The second candidate is Leticia Green-Carmichael.
Coleman said the winner of November’s special election will also hold the chancery clerk’s post until the county’s next general election, which will be held in 2027.
A new change with the upcoming special election will be the combination of two voting precincts.
The West Bentonia precinct will be combined with the Bentonia East precinct, which is currently located at the Bentonia City Hall.
The two voting precincts in the Bentonia community were combined due to one of the voting location’s building gradually falling into disrepair.
