The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi’s 41st annual Bacchus Ball Gala was held recently at the Country Club of Jackson. The evening included regional music, Creole cuisine, and a silent auction.
Held during carnival season, the gala helps ensure the foundation continues its mission ministering to Mississippians living with type 1 or 2 diabetes. Caroline Lowe was chairman of the benefit with co-chair Holly Voller. Attending the event were (from left) Desmond Black Thompson, Darcel Odom, Sabrina Walker, and Aminah Walker.

Hancock Whitney Bank has announced a $25,000 donation to support the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry’s 10th Annual UMMC Dental Mission Week, scheduled for Feb. 2-5, 2026.
For the third year, Hancock Whitney Bank is a premium sponsor of Dental Mission Week, an annual initiative that provides free dental care to underserved, uninsured, and vulnerable adults and children across Mississippi. Patients travel from communities throughout the state to receive critical dental services during the weeklong event.

We Will Go’s “We Love Jackson” Luncheon was held recently at the Country Club of Jackson. The luncheon is the only fundraising event for the nonprofit. Coach Cliff Ellis was the guest speaker and several baskets were auctioned including a “We Love Jackson” basket.
Some of the efforts of We Will Go include distributing groceries to low-income families, afterschool care with a focus on literacy, and providing all day summer learning for students in need.

Special Olympics Mississippi recently hosted the 2025 Gold Gala at Duling Hall. The event honored the accomplishments of more than 6,000 athletes across the state who compete with Special Olympics Mississippi.
Donna Sims and Rita Martinson, who both have served on the board for more than 25 years, were honored. The evening also included a live auction, dining and music from The Love Notez.
Special Olympics Mississippi is dedicated to providing continuous sports training and competition in Olympic-style events for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Calvin Coolidge slashed spending and the national debt. He cut taxes and championed American business. Coolidge ushered in the unbridled success of the Roaring 20s, and yet, he’s forgotten.
At a Washington dinner party, a socialite sidled up to President Calvin Coolidge with a mischievous smile. “Mr. President,” she said, “I’ve made a bet that I can get you to say more than three words.”
Coolidge looked at her, expression unchanged, and replied, “you lose.”
