Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann (R) and Speaker Jason White (R) are set to gavel in the Mississippi Senate and House of Representatives, respectively, Tuesday at noon at the state Capitol.
The annual legislative session will run three months, with sine die, or the end of the session, tentatively set for Sunday, April 5.

Me or your lying eyes.” Substitute Entergy’s spokesperson for Chico Marx, and you have the current gaslighting telling you don’t believe what you see happening in other states and what common sense tells you will happen here. Just trust Entergy not to raise electric rates for small customers to benefit Amazon’s data centers.

The Sun is a community newspaper so we like to focus on local news but the decimation of local news by Big Tech has caused more focus on national and international news. It is human nature to focus on what’s there.

In addition to advancing ARC investments, Governor Reeves as the States’ Co-Chair also hosts ARC’s annual conference, which will take place on June 2-4, 2026, in Starkville.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) has been elected by his fellow Appalachian governors to serve as the 2026 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) States’ Co-Chair.
ARC announced the news on Monday morning, noting that Reeves will serve as ARC’s 73rd States’ Co-Chair and the sixth Mississippi Governor to hold the position since 1965.

Amanda Gibson of Vicksburg celebrated her Dec. 10 graduation from Hinds Community with her splashy red boots for the walk across the stage.
Gibson, 41, had been a Licensed Practical Nurse for 16 years and decided to take the next step, so to speak, to earn an Association Degree in Nursing.
“I just decided to do more. I love what I do – being able to help others when they can’t help themselves. Sometimes we’re the only people patients see,” she said.

The Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi presented its 49th annual Chimneyville Craft Festival at the Waller Craft Center in Ridgeland. All exhibitors in the festival were juried members of the Mississippi Craftsmen’s Guild.
The event kicked off with the Preview Party at the craft center. The evening included booths with the members’ work, hors d’oeuvres, open bar, and live music from Bill Ellison. Attending the event were (from left)

Sammie Lee Mullins Gambles slipped away from her family and friends on December 25, 2025 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was 74.
Sammie was born December 17, 1951 to Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Mullins of Mendenhall. Sammie was a passionate and skilled basketball player who was a deciding factor in the success of the Lady Tigers. She was also a Mendenhall High Beauty. She graduated from Mendenhall High in 1969 and went on to Hinds County Junior College where she was a Hinds High Stepper. She later finished Beauty School and began her life’s work.

The Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its November 20, 2025, meeting at Ricks Memorial Library.
The members signed and wrote notes in 143 Christmas cards that were sent to the Veterans at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Kosciusko and local nursing homes in Yazoo City. A card was received from the Stamps for the Wounded Veterans Organization acknowledging the 360 U.S. Postage Stamps they received from Yazoo Chapter DAR.
