Willie Edward Hill was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to the late Lizzie Fears-Hill and Eddie Hill, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Eddie Lee McCullum.

One of the Southeast's top economic development executives will take the reins of the Tate County Economic Development Foundation.
The Tate County Board of Supervisors and the Tate County Economic Development Foundation have announced the hiring of Joe Max Higgins to fill the vacancy in the community’s community’s economic and industrial development organization.
The announcement was made Monday night following a meeting of the EDF Board and community stakeholders.

Special Olympics Mississippi recently hosted the 2025 Gold Gala at Duling Hall. The event honored the accomplishments of more than 6,000 athletes across the state who compete with Special Olympics Mississippi.
Donna Sims and Rita Martinson, who both have served on the board for more than 25 years, were honored. The evening also included a live auction, dining and music from The Love Notez.

Mary Tumasz Lackey, aged 78, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on September 22, 1947, Mary was the daughter of Eddie and Bobbie Tumasz. She was raised in Jackson and graduated from Murrah High School. Mary then attended the University of Mississippi. In 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Lackey. Later, their son, Mark, was born in Oxford.
