Renowned musician and Yazoo City native Michael Henderson passed away at 71 years old.
The professional accomplishments of Henderson included playing bass for Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder. He also performed with Aretha Franklin and had a successful solo career in the 1970s.
Henderson was born in Yazoo City on July 7, 1951. As a teenager, he began to make a name for himself in the music industry during the 1960s in Detroit. His talent would eventually lead him to joining forces with Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis, before venturing out on his solo career.
According to Henderson’s social media page, his family announced his passing on July 19, stating “singer, songwriter, bass innovator, music producer, father and son Michael Henderson has peacefully made his transition surrounded by family and loved ones today at his home, Atlanta Georgia. Bless his heart and soul. He touched the lives of many and returned that love through his many live concerts, music recordings, social media, interviews and incessant touring which he loved …”
Henderson’s career spanned over five decades, and he credited his success to his “spirit” of music, which never left him.
