We join the local community in mourning the passing of JoAnne Collins, a beloved former educator and community servant, who recently passed away at 90 years old.
Aside from teaching our local children for over two decades, Collins was also a committed volunteer who dedicated countless hours to community and civic service. She was also an avid reader of this newspaper, who often stopped by for a quick visit to give us words of encouragement.
If The Herald received such sweet sentiments of praise, we could only imagine how her former students must have felt under her time as a teacher.
It is people like Collins who make our local community a special place to call home. She was eager to volunteer, excited to share good news and truly involved when it came to caring for others. When she asked how you or your family were doing, she really wanted to know. That level of love is worth remembering in times like these.
We extend our thoughts and prayers to her family as we reflect on Collins’ loving spirit, incomparable kindness and faithful service.
