The Yazoo County Panthers are off to a 1-2 start after defeating Hartfield Academy, 69-61 over the weekend at the Holmes County Classic held at Holmes Community College.
The Panthers opened the season with a narrow 62-60 loss to defending Class 5A champion Canton and a 70-60 loss to St. Joe.
Canton 62, YCHS 60
Anthony Hudson posted a double-double against Canton with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Amari Southern had 16 points and Michael Knox chipped in with 13.
St. Joe 70, YCHS 60
Southern led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds, Kezyron Young had 13 points and five rebounds and Hudson had 12 points and eight rebounds.
YCHS 69, Hartfield 61
Southern and Young both had impressive games against Haftfield with Southern scoring a team-high 29 points followed by Young with 20.
The Panthers hit the road this week against Hartfield again on Tuesday and Velma Jackson on Thursday.
