The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of the year last week, welcoming its two new board members with the arrival of Supervisors David Peyton and Joseph Thomas Jr.
During that meeting, the board president and vice president were also approved for the next term.
According to board minutes, Thomas was appointed to serve as board president in a 3-2 vote. Supervisor Willie Wright made the motion, seconded by Peyton. The motion passed with Supervisor David Berry and Supervisor Lee Moore in opposition.
Wright then made the motion to appoint Moore as vice president, which was seconded by Berry. The motion passed in a 4-1 vote, with Thomas casting the sole opposing vote.
Seven department heads were also approved to remain in their positions with the return of County Administrator Donna Kraft, Board Attorney Jay Barbour, Road Manager Jim Warrington, Emergency Management Director Jack Willingham, County Engineers Larry Dixon and Ron McMaster Jr. and Justice Court Clerk Demetrius Westbrook. Their re-appointments passed on a 3-2 vote with Peyton and Thomas in opposition.
The next county board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m.
