Former police chief Joey Head has resigned from his post at the Yazoo City Police Department.
His resignation letter was accepted by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Monday. During this week’s board meeting, city leaders appointed Cpt. Richard Brooks as interim police chief for the next 90 days or until a candidate is appointed before then.
The former city council suspended Head for five days without pay on March 21. However, no action from the former city board was taken following his suspension, and he remained in his post until he submitted his resignation letter this week.
• In other city news, board attorney Lilli Evans Bass also resigned from her role as municipal judge. However, she will continue to serve as municipal judge until the city council appoints her replacement.
• Following the swearing in ceremony, the new city council quickly began addressing new business.
Lilli Evans Bass was reappointed as the board’s attorney. And John Carroll was also reappointed in his role as city clerk.
• The city board also accepted an order to consider a Yazoo City Summer Youth Employment Program.
