Yazoo City senior guards Travis Jones and Jacorion Taylor put on a show this past Saturday in the annual The Jump Showcase event held at Madison Central High School.
Jones scored a game-high 28 points, and Taylor had 26 as the Indians easily defeated the Pearl Pirates, 92-61.
The Indians (6-2) were coming off a 73-58 Friday night victyory over the Humphreys County Cowboys.
Against Pearl, Yazoo City jumped out to an early lead, but it was the 32-point second quarter that did the Pirates in. Taylor began to heat up in that quarter and knocked down three three-pointers to rally the Indians.
From that point on it was smooth sailing for the Indians, as they won by a landslide.
Following Jones and Taylor with double figures was Jahiem Sims with 12.
Other scorers were Chris Gates and Keiron Davis with eight apiece, Rickal Session with four, Eziren Collum with three, Jamerio Effingger with two and Jaden Rogers with one.
Against Humphreys County, the Indians trailed the Cowboys 25-22 at the half but bounced back with a 28-11 third quarter and a 23-22 fourth to seal the win.
Taylor and Jones led the way with 18 and 17 points respectively followed by Collum and Effingger each with eight.
Gates chipped in with seven, Rogers with five, Sims with four, and Davis and Session rounded out the scoring with three apiece.
The Indians have a busy Thanksgiving week ahead of them as they hosted Greenville on Monday, traveled to Greenwood to play in the Highway 82 Delta Classic on Tuesday and will host rival Canton this Saturday.
The Indians opponent in the Highway 82 Delta Challenge is Amanda Elzy with gametime set for 1:00 p.m. at the Andrew McQueen Jr., Civic Center (the Leflore County Civic Center).
