Yazoo City High School secured county bragging rights for a year after both the Indians and Lady Indians were victorious over rival Yazoo County last Friday.
The Indians won in grand fashion, downing the Panthers by 60 points, 77-17, while the Lady Indians held off a Lady Panther fourth quarter surge to take a six-point, 44-38 win.
The Indians improved to 11-2 and the Lady Indians to 4-8 while the Lady Panthers fell to 4-7 and the Panthers, 0-10.
In girls action, E’kemi Johnson and Jaya Gallion led Yazoo City in scoring with 15 and 10 points respectively.
Other scorers were Zoie Baker with eight, I’liciona White with five, and Torletta Johnson, Akayla Hudson and Jermya Porter each with two.
Kamilia Jones was the only Lady Panther to reach double figures with a game-high 17 points.
Clemmie Carr added seven, Gabby McCrary had four, Aahniyah Smith and Jayla Snow each had three and Khalee Harrison and Jamariah Barton rounded out the scoring with two apiece.
The Indians were led in scoring by senior Dalon Henry with a career-high 17 points. Will Grayson chipped in with 14 and Kortae Meadows added 13.
Other scorers were Daveon Henry and Tamarion Hoover with seven apiece, Xaquarius Thomas with six, Jermon Baymon with four, Damarion Winston with three, and Travis Jones, Caleb Crozier and T.J. Rials each with two.
Donavin Green led Yazoo with five points followed by Bray Jones and Treveon Bassett with three points apiece and Anthony Hudson, Ke’zyron Young and Chris Harris with two points each.
Yazoo City hosts Canton this Friday while Yazoo County hosts St. Andrews.
