The city of Yazoo City has been awarded about $746,000 in grant funds for an extensive stormwater project through the Mississippi Municipality and County Water Infrastructure Grant Program.
The grant provides Yazoo City a total of $745,732 for its Stormwater Drainage Project, which it projected to cost $1,615,752 in estimation.
The Mississippi Legislature and Governor Tate Reeves created the Mississippi Municipality and County Water Infrastructure Grant Program Act to provide funds to eligible entities for making necessary investments in water, waste water and stormwater infrastructure. About $450 million dollars was set aside by the state to help fund the program. Yazoo City was among 430 cities and counties that applied for the grant program. The first round of $140 million dollars will be awarded throughout the state, with the next round of grants being awarded early next year.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will manage this program.
