Led by a 4-hit, 5 RBI performance from Kalem Kraft, the Yazoo City 12U All-Stars defeated the Kosciusko All-Stars 16-12 at the recent 12U State Tournament.
Kraft had three doubles and a single to lead the 12U Stars to the four-run victory. Kosciusko led 2-1 after the first inning, but Yazoo tied the game at three by the top of the second. Kosciusko, however, erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
Trailing 12-9 heading into the top of the sixth inning, the Yazoo Stars scored seven runs in the frame, leading to the final 6-12 advantage. For the game, Yazoo City totaled 18 hits while Kosciusko had 12.
Jon Wiley Jones pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Yazoo City, surrendering eight hits and eight runs (six earned) while striking out one and walking three. JT Smith started the game on the mound for the Stars. The left-handed pitcher allowed one hit and three runs over one-third of an inning with no strikeouts and two walks.
Yazoo City was led at the plate by Michael Kirby, Reed Carson, Jones, Tatum Reeves, and Kaidynn Akins each collecting multiple hits for the Stars. Yazoo City stole six bases in the game, led by Akins with two.
