Rebecca (Roo) Walker-Moir, granddaughter of Thomas and Kaye Odom of Yazoo City and daughter of Stacey Walker of Canton, Mississippi, earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, through the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education.
Her doctoral research focused on recycled thermoplastic composites for large-scale 3D printing. She is currently completing a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where her research focuses on polymer synthesis for advanced ceramics applications.
Her dissertation was dedicated to her family, especially her grandfather, Thomas “Terry” Odom, who passed away in April of 2025.
