Mayor shares good news, bad news

Mayor Diane Delaware relayed some good news and some bad news during the Yazoo City Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Friday.

The good news is that Yazoo City's community garden has garnered praises from the White House.

The bad news is that Yazoo City ranks among the 50 poorest cities in America.

MDOT to repair Broadway water leak

A Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) official said Friday that MDOT will repair the longstanding pavement problem at the intersection of Broadway and Custer Street. The site of the problem is on US149, which is a state highway.

City's third grade reading test scores improve

Yazoo City Municipal School District Assistant Superintendent Lucille Lovette has reported that recent testing of third-graders' reading ability has pushed the number passing the state test from 53 percent to 73 percent.
