Two suspects remain behind bars after allegedly sneaking contraband into the local federal prison. Investigators said a third suspect remains on the run.
Gamalier Rivera, 31, and Raymon Aviles, 35, were both charged with introduction of contraband into a federal prison and felony fleeing.
Simon Stubblefield, with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the incident occurred about 4 a.m. last Monday.
“We received a call from the federal prison, reporting a drone was dropping packages over the fence,” Stubblefield said. “I, along with Deputy Cameron Shaffer, scoped the area and noticed a vehicle leaving the Adam Harris Circle area. We attempted to stop the vehicle, but they refused to stop for several miles.”
Stubblefield said the vehicle stopped near Avondale Drive and Grand Avenue, with three suspects fleeing from the vehicle.
“We were able to apprehend two suspects, but the third suspect got away,” he added. “The two suspects were charged with introduction of contraband, including cell phones, tobacco, drugs and other items.”
In other county arrests, a convicted felon was arrested after a weapon and drugs were found on him during a traffic stop.
Floyd Woods, 30, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
“We stopped the suspect on Highway 3 and found narcotics on him,” said Chief Deputy Terry Gann. “Upon searching the vehicle, we also discovered a weapon in the console, and the suspect is a convicted felon.”
