Two suspects remain behind bars on murder charges. Xzavian Gainwell and Tylan Johnson, both 19, remain in custody at the Yazoo County Correctional Facility on murder charges.
Jeffrey Johnson was pronounced dead by paramedics from a gunshot wound, according to Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers. The victim was pronounced dead at 1:25 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Graystone Apartments on West Second Street.
A female victim was also struck by gunfire, but her injury is considered non-life threatening.
Officers were first dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire.
“Upon arrival, officers observed individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” said Cpt. Artis Harris, with the Yazoo City Police Department. “Emergency medical services were immediately requested, and officers began assisting with life-saving measures, including CPR, until ambulance personnel arrived on scene.”
This case remains under active investigation by the Yazoo City Police Department, and more details will appear in next week’s edition of The Herald.
