Following a side-by-side UTV accident in rural Yazoo County last weekend, a local juvenile passed away from injuries.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said John Evan Reese Sanders, 15, of Bentonia, passed away from massive head injuries. He said Pafford medics pronounced him dead on the scene.
Sanders, a local student within the Yazoo County School District, was an athlete and musician.
Shivers said the accident occurred at 5:20 p.m. in the 1900 block of Bell Road last Sunday.
“The side-by-side Sanders was operating turned over on its side, throwing him onto the pavement,” Shivers said. “There were no other injuries reported at the scene.”
In a separate incident on Highway 3 last Monday, a Satartia woman passed away from her injuries in a three-vehicle accident.
Shivers said Gwendolyn Brauer, 62, passed away from her injuries in the accident.
“The car she was driving collided head-on with another vehicle,” Shivers said. “The driver of the vehicle she collided with was airlifted to the University Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition.”
Shivers said the accident occurred last Monday at 3:53 p.m. on Highway 3, two miles north of Satartia. He said a third vehicle was also involved.
The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
