Two city department heads announced their retirements this week with their last days of work for Yazoo City to be towards the end of the month.
Fire Chief Ricky Harris and Public Works Director Robert Green submitted their resignation letters to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Monday afternoon.
Green’s last day will be March 24, and Harris’ will be on March 31.
Harris joined the city of Yazoo City under the administration of former mayor Hugh McGraw within the street department. He joined the Yazoo City Fire Department under former mayor Wardell Leach’s tenure. He served as assistant chief under former mayor Diane Delaware before being appointed fire chief under the current city administration.
“I thank the community for all their support over the years,” Harris told The Herald. “Yazoo City will always be in my heart, and I will keep it in my prayers.”
Green has been with Yazoo City for close to three decades. He arrived under the Leach administration before being promoted to director after former director Jeremain Greer passed away in 2022.
