A recent safety checkpoint conducted by deputies led to a high-speed chase and drug arrest.
Cortez Parker, 30, was charged with fleeing law enforcement, manufacturing and sale of a controlled substance and reckless driving.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said the checkpoint was conducted on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Corrine Booker Drive, near Shady Lane Apartments.
“A dark colored SUV approached the checkpoint, and deputies attempted to approach the vehicle,” McCoy said. “The driver of the vehicle drove away at a very high rate of speed.”
McCoy said deputies stopped the fleeing vehicle at Woolwine Apartments, where the driver, later identified as Parker, jumped out of the vehicle with a dark colored bag.
“After a short foot pursuit, deputies quickly apprehended the suspect and placed him under arrest,” McCoy said.
