The theft of a single cigar left one Yazoo City man behind bars on strong armed robbery charges.
Rorecoss Willis was charged with strong armed robbery on Jan. 23 around 8:30 p.m. after flashing a weapon at a convenience store clerk.
Police Chief Terry Gann said his officers responded to the armed robbery at the Walmart convenience store, located in the parking lot of the local chain.
“The suspect approached the counter and asked the clerk for a cigar,” Gann said. “When the clerk placed the cigar on the counter, the suspect asked her if it was free, flashing a weapon in his waist band. He then picked up the cigar and left the store.”
Gann said since the suspect flashed a weapon to the clerk and took merchandise, the charges would fall under strong armed robbery. He added that officers were able to identify the suspect after running the vehicle tag that was captured on a video surveillance system.
“Officers arrived at the suspect’s home on Clubview, where he opened the door and went to his knees to surrender,” Gann said. “The suspect was also strongly under the influence.”
Gann said arrangements are also being made with River Ridge Behavioral Health to discuss rehabilitation services for Willis.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
