A habitual offender identified as a suspect in the death of a man killed earlier this year was arrested over the weekend.
Tyler Myles was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon after he was apprehended at the Blue Diamond nightclub in Yazoo City last Saturday night. There was also an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
As of press time, Police Chief Terry Gann said Myles has not been charged with murder due to an ongoing investigation into the motive behind the shooting. An update on that particular charge will be provided as the investigation continues.
Gann said tips from the public assisted his department in locating Myles, who has a lengthy criminal history.
“The tips started rolling in as where we could find the suspect,” Gann said. “With the assistance of the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, who assisted us in securing the perimeter and with crowd control, we located Myles hiding in the ceiling of the Blue Diamond.”
Andrew Jackson, 28, died from gunshot wounds in what police officials believe was an ambush shooting at a local apartment complex in February. He suffered from two gunshot wounds after a deadly shooting at Yazoo Estates apartment.
“It definitely appears to have been an ambush shooting,” Gann told The Herald in a previous article.
Gann said three individuals inside a vehicle had pulled into the local apartment complex the night of the shooting with Jackson being the driver.
“As they entered the complex, someone opened fire upon the vehicle,” Gann said. “The driver (Jackson) was struck twice.”
The other passengers were not injured, Gann added.
