A season with high expectations for the Yazoo County Panthers came to an unceremonious end on Friday night in a 34-6 loss to Water Valley in the first round of the MHSAA 3A playoffs.
It was a back-and-forth battle throughout the entirety of the first half. Each team was able to highlight their ability on both offense and defense in the opening quarters.
By halftime, the Blue Devils held a slight 13-6 lead.
Things took a turn for the worst for Yazoo County in the second half.
The Panthers held strong for much of the third quarter, but with four minutes to go, the Blue Devils punched the ball in again, extending their lead to 20-6.
In the fourth quarter, Water Valley put up two touchdowns to extend their lead to 34-6, a score that would prove to be the final.
The Panthers ended the season with a 5-6 overall record.
