The losing streak of Yazoo County ended at 3-straight on Friday night when they defeated Raymond High School 12-0.
The win brought their overall record to 2-3 on the season.
The game was far from an easy one for the Panthers.
In the first quarter, neither team was able to break their opposition’s will, leading to a 0-0 game heading into the second quarter.
The Panthers broke the scoreless tie in the second with a touchdown run to give them a 6-0 lead.
The second half mirrored the first almost exactly.
In the third quarter, the score held steady because of defensive excellence, but the Panthers slipped away again in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 12-0, a score that would become the final.
Kory Gainwell had a monster game against Raymond to break the losing streak. The junior rushed the ball 24 times for 183 yards and a touchdown. Gainwell also caught a pass for 24 yards in the winning effort.
Starting his first game at quarterback, Cameron Shaffer played admirably. He went 3-for-6 through the air for 46 yards and rushed 11 times for 84 yards and a touchdown.
Jamarion Stewart rushed seven times for 47 yards in the win.
Kenderian Dixon, Tredarius Carr, and Alzavian Shelton each produced eight tackles in the shutout effort.
Tyler Lambert was right behind them with seven tackles of his own.
Keon Sims had two tackles, one of which was for a loss, and a sack.
Next up for the Panthers is a much-needed bye week before district play begins.
The Panthers will return to action on September 28 when they host Humphreys County at 7 p.m.
