Yazoo County’s basketball teams were swept for the season by Humphreys County on Tuesday night after losing back-to-back games for the second time this year.

Yazoo County’s Lady Panthers lost their second straight game in the final minute of action on Tuesday night when they fell 54-53 to Humphreys County.
According to Yazoo County head girls basketball coach Patrick Nutter, the majority of their problems can be boiled down to one very real problem.
“We don’t have a leader,” Nutter said. “Until we find a leader, these things will continue to happen.”
Nutter feels that his team struggles to finish out games and a lack of leadership has been a big part of that.
“We don’t finish games,” Nutter said. “That’s sad to say. We led this one until the final minute. We’re playing pretty young players, but our ninth graders are players much better than I expected. They’ll make ninth grade mistakes, but our biggest problem is juniors and seniors making ninth grade mistakes. We don’t handle pressure well. We get wild. Good teams don’t get flustered.”
The Lady Panthers, as they have in many games this season, got up in the first quarter, outscoring Humphreys County 11-7 in the first quarter.
Yazoo County was able to extend their lead with a 19-14 lead, making it a 30-21 game at the half.
And as they have done in so many games this year, the Lady Panthers came out of the break sloppy, giving up 15 points while only scoring nine to bring the score to 39-36.
The Cowgirls’ momentum kept going in the fourth quarter of play and took the lead in the final seconds of the game. They outscored Yazoo County 18-14 to win 54-53.
Deja Moore led the Lady Panthers offensively with 28 points.

The Panthers of Yazoo took a tough 72-50 loss against Humphreys County on Tuesday night to move to 1-12 on the season.
The Panthers took the fight to the Cowboys in the first quarter of play, outscoring them 16-11 to take an early lead in divisional game.
In the second quarter, however, the Humphreys County offense awakened. They had a 20-point quarter while only giving up 11 points, bringing the score at the half to 31-27.
If things weren’t bad enough for Yazoo County in the second quarter, they found a new low in the third. They scored a mere nine points to Humphreys County’s 21 points, falling into a 52-36 deficit with only one quarter remaining.
The offense for the Panthers picked back up slightly for Yazoo County in the fourth, which could be seen by their 14 points, but the Cowboys had no intention of slowing down. They scored 20 more points to take the game 72-50.
Yazoo County will host division opponent Cleveland East Side on Tuesday night.
Tip-off for the first game of the night is set for 6 p.m.
