Benton Academy went down swinging in a 28-15 loss to Sylva Bay Friday.
The Saints controlled the field for the first half, but the Raiders still had plenty of fight left in them in the second half.
J.B. Middleton caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Arion Warren and added the extra point kick to cut Sylva Bay’s lead to 14-7 with 3:34 to go in the third quarter.
“J.B. is an amazing route runner and has the ability to get separation from the defensive back and catch the ball,” said Raiders head coach Kenny Burton.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, Sylva Bay responded with 14 unanswered points to increase the lead to 28-7. The Saints carried that lead into the final quarter.
J.T. McDaniel and Caden Alexander made a tackle in the endzone for a safety to make it 29-9 with 5:55 left in the game.
Warren connected with Middleton once again as Middleton was crossing the goal line for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 4:32 left in the game.
That resulted in what would end up being the final score of 28-14.
This week is homecoming week for the Raiders.
Benton Academy (2-4) hosts Central Holmes (3-3) this week.
