The Lady Panthers of Yazoo County High School finished out their regular season with a record of 16-7.
The Yazoo County girls defeated the Charleston Lady Tigers on Feb. 8 with a score of 47-27.
Lady Panthers Coach Christina Demus said that while she was thankful for the win, she was not impressed by the way her girls performed in the game.
"We didn't show much progression during the Charleston game," Coach Demus said. "The game was a low scoring game compared to our past performance. We were pretty much missing that energy."
The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Tigers 8-4 by the end of the first quarter, 19-14 by half time, 30-21 by the end of the third quarter, and 47-27 by the end of the game.
Coach Demus said that the girls are now focusing on getting ready for the Region 3 - 3A District Tournament hosted by Yazoo County High School this weekend.
"The girls are extremely excited," she said. "They have done an outstanding job being focused. They seem to have bursts of energy before, during and after practice."
Coach Demus added that they look forward to support from fans in the community as the girls move forward with their season.
"I feel that the support from the community plays a vital role when it comes to the success of our youth," she said. "In fact, research has proven that schools with a greater support system thrive compared to those who do not have such support."
Scores for the District tournament games were not available by press time.
