The Lady Panthers are now 4-3 in their season, and 2-1 in district after falling to Morton last week with a score of 11-5.
Coach Grant Andrews said that the Yazoo County girls had a 5-4 lead with two outs by the bottom of the fifth inning. Two errors by the Lady Panther defense allowed Morton to score three unearned runs.
Morton, one of the top 3A teams whose record is 15-1, currently holds the first place spot in the district with Yazoo County holding second place.
"Ann Marie Jones is who stood out in this game," Andrews said. "She only allowed four earned runs to a team that has been averaging eight runs a game."
Andrews said that the Lady Panthers might have won the game if not for those two costly errors in the bottom of the fifth.
"I felt like the girls played their best ball game of the season against Morton," he said. "As far as the season as a whole I am very pleased with where we are right now. We lost five starters from last year's team, and my younger players have done a great job filling the open spots."
The Lady Panthers traveled to McLaurin High School on Thursday and will host Meridian at Yazoo County on Friday in a double-header starting at 4 p.m.
