Manchester Academy’s softball season is off to a slow start after the Lady Mavs dropped back-to-back games to Copiah Academy and Clinton Christian School.
According to assistant coach Emily Poe, Friday’s 17-6 loss to Copiah was a product of errors.
“We struggled on the mound some in both games,” Poe said. On Friday, I think there were some jitters in the first game. Errors killed us. It was 11 hits to 10 hits, so we were pretty even there. They just took advantage of every single mistake we made.”
Poe believes Saturday’s 10-2 Clinton Christian loss was due to a lack of offensive firepower.
“We didn’t hit the ball quite as well on Saturday against Clinton Christian,” Poe said. “We’re working on it every day, but we just didn’t hit well that day. We have to put everything together. We’re working on these problems against non-conference teams.”
The Lady Mavericks will have their first district game of the season on Thursday night when they travel to face Park Place Christian.
The first pitch is set for 6:15 p.m.
