The Lady Mavericks softball team is now 6-0 after defeating Central Hinds Academy 6-4 on Tuesday.
Coach Robert Black said that the Manchester girls fell behind 3-0 after two innings, but made a comeback by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the third.
"Both teams played on even terms for the rest of the way with the final score being 6-4," he said.
Addison Ritchie started out the game pitching for the Lady Mavericks. After giving up 3 runs in the first two innings, Ritchie came back and shut down the Lady Cougars for the next three innings,
Sydney Porter took the mound after that in relief for Ritchie with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. She was able to set the Cougars down in order in the seventh inning to end the game.
"Addison and Sydney both pitched great and did a good job of keeping the Central Hinds batters off balance," Black said. "Our big inning offensively was started with consecutive hits from Maci Lowery, Sydney Porter, Lanie Potter and Lizzy Carpenter."
Thea Trammell and Presley Trammell each also had RBI's which contributed to the win for the Lady Mavericks.
"Even though we are 6-0, we have yet to play a complete clean game," Black said. "As the season goes on and the competition gets tougher, we will need to eliminate fielding and base running mistakes to remain competitive.
