The Yazoo City Lady Indians softball team defeated Gentry High School in a shut-out game on April 3, winning with a score of 24-3.
The Lady Indians started out the game strong by taking a four-run lead in the first inning. There was no turning back once the Yazoo City girls stepped up to bat in the second inning scoring 13 runs. The Gentry girls were unable to score in the third inning thanks to accurate pitching from Senior Cree Williams.
"Freshman Kerrington Simmons had an excellent game on both offense and defense," said Lady Indians Coach Taunya Hatchett. "Simmons was strong at the bat and with her base stealing. On defense, she showed her strength when she threw a runner out at second from behind the plate."
Cree Williams and Antiniyha Brown sealed in the scoring with a home run and a triple that sparked more runs.
Hatchett said that other notable players in the game include Jasmine Sims, Doukeria Martin, Jaya Gallion, McKenzie Cowans, and Ebony Brown.
The Lady Indians will travel to Yazoo County High School on Tuesday, April 9, with the game beginning at 5 p.m.
