With the head football coaching job open at Yazoo County High School, the administration decided to promote from within and allow Robert Dobbs to take on the title.
Dobbs, who was an assistant under former Yazoo County head football coach Bernard Euell for five years, is excited about the possibility that awaits him.
“This will be my first head coaching job,” Dobbs said. “It feels real good. I’m proud of the administration for giving me the opportunity for my first head job. It’s really exciting. I’m looking forward to continuing what’s been done here before. The foundation here has already been set, so we’ll just continue to work hard and continue on this path.”
His previous duties as an assistant included being the offensive line coach, offensive coordinator, and boy’s head track coach.
Before he arrived at Yazoo County High School, Dobbs was the offensive line coach at Vardaman High School and junior varsity offensive coordinator.
Dobbs has been in the coaching profession for 10 years.
He will need to decide on whether or not he will continue to do things Euell’s way, but that decision will take some time.
“We’ll continue to do some of the things the same,” Dobbs said. “I really haven’t had a chance to think about what changes will be made, but there is a good foundation here.”
While what changes may still be up in the air, Dobbs is much more concerned about what stays the same, particularly in relation to his staff.
“The important thing is keeping the staff here together,” Dobbs said. “We have all worked together here for five years. We all get along. We all know what to expect from each other. And the kids know what to expect from us as well. They know us. We have a good solid foundation to build upon, and things are going in the right direction.”
