The Yazoo County Lady Panthers are now 3-2 in their region after two games last week.
The Yazoo County girls are currently 6-5 for the season and are looking at second place in the district behind Morton.
Coach Grant Andrews said that the softball girls defeated McLaurin in a district game last Wednesday with a score of 17-0.
"Ann Marie Jones pitched a no-hitter against them and had seven strikeouts in the game," Andrews said. "We only played three innings total in the game because we reached the 15 run rule by the third inning. That win put us 3-1 in district."
Last Thursday, the Lady Panthers fell to St. Andrews 12-9 in a seven inning game.
"We led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 4th inning and then the wheels rolled off," Andrews said. "We had four walks and four errors, allowing them to score seven runs in one inning."
St. Andrews scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the gap 12-3.
The Lady Panthers made a comeback in the top of the sixth inning where they scored five runs to cut the lead 12-8.
The Yazoo County girls held St. Andrews in the bottom of the 6th but were only able to score one more run in the top of the 7th. By the end of the game, the Lady Panthers had made a valiant effort in fighting back for the win, but they still fell 12-9.
"We probably pitched and played our worst defensive game of the year," Andrews said. "We had too many walks and errors in the game to win, but I am proud of the team for fighting back after getting down by nine runs and coming back and giving themselves a chance to win the game in the 7th inning."
This loss to St. Andrews placed the Lady Panthers at 2nd in the District after Morton.
Going forward, the Yazoo County Softball team will play a series of games in the first round of the playoffs at home against Seminary High School on Thursday, April 18, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
