Yazoo County’s Lady Panthers dropped their third straight game on Friday night when they fell 44-42 to Amanda Elzy.
As they have so many times this year, the Lady Panthers jumped on the opposition early in the first quarter, outscoring Amanda Elzy 16-9.
Disaster in the form of an offensive drought struck Yazoo County in the second quarter of play. They put up only four points to Amanda Elzy’s eight, allowing their lead to slip to 20-16 at the half.
According to Yazoo County head basketball coach Patrick Nutter, the second quarter struggles were too much for his team to overcome.
“The second quarter did not turn out too good for us,” Nutter said. “It hurt us. We just didn’t score. Our inconsistency showed up again.”
In the third quarter, Amanda Elzy had their best offensive quarter yet with 16 points. Yazoo County could only muster 12 points, making it a 32-32 game with eight minutes left.
Despite a hard fought fourth quarter, Yazoo County faltered down the stretch and was outscored 12-10 to make the final score 44-42.
Deja Moore was the leading scorer for the Lady Panthers with 19 points in the defeat.
Ciara Thompson was right behind Moore with 17 points in the losing effort.
The Lady Panthers are now 10-9 on the season, which is one of the worst records a Nutter team has had this late in the season in quite some time.
“It’s been a while since I have had a team that was this close to .500 this late in the season,” Nutter said. “We’re a better team than that. There have been very few games we were completely out of. It’s our inconsistency. You see it in practice and in the games.”

Yazoo County’s boys basketball team was swept on the season by Amanda Elzy on Friday night when they fell 58-41.
Amanda Elzy gained some momentum in the first quarter when they outscored Yazoo County 17-10, but the Panthers of Yazoo were able to fight back and make the second quarter a more evenly matched 12-12, bringing the score at the half to 29-22.
The scoring up picked for both teams in the third quarter with Amanda Elzy barely edging out Yazoo County by a score of 19-17 to make it a 48-39 game with eight minutes remaining in the game.
Things spun out of control for Yazoo County in the final quarter of action when they were only able to score two points to Amanda Elzy’s 10, bringing the final to 58-41.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers faced Ridgeland on Friday night, but it was not completed by press time.
