Sidney Arlen McCloskey, 90, of Yazoo City, MS departed this life on Monday, January 19, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.
Sidney was born in Jim Wells County, Texas, to Samuel Emmet McCloskey and Azalea Bode McCloskey. He married his wife, Alice Regan McCloskey on July 31, 1957, and they were married for 61 years. They settled on the Regan family farm in 1974. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years and 26 days of service. During his military career, he served at bases around the world, including Goose Bay, Labrador; France; Germany; Hawaii; and the island of Enewetak in the Pacific during atomic testing.
Following his military service, Sidney worked for the Yazoo County Courthouse, where he retired in 2003 as the Civil Defense Director and 911 Coordinator. After retirement, he did what he enjoyed most—taking care of his grandchildren.
Sidney was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Regan McCloskey. Survivors include his sons, Sidney McCloskey II (Judy) and John McCloskey (Charlene), both of Yazoo City, MS; grandchildren, Valarie Horn, Morgan Craft (Derrick), Nathan McCloskey, and Owen McCloskey (Anna Kate); a great-grandchild, Hayden Horn; a sister, Joyce McCloskey (Kelly Cross) of Seadrift, TX; and his dog, Scooter.
A visitation will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Yazoo City on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with Father Lincoln Doll officiating. Music will be provided by Edward and Viola Dacus. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS. Services are under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Derrick Craft, Hayden Horn, John McCloskey, Nathan McCloskey, Owen McCloskey, and Sidney McCloskey II.
