If playing the talented Callaway Chargers wasn’t a daunting enough task when at full strength, the Yazoo City Indians were forced to go up against the Chargers without 10 starters.
For disciplinary reasons, YHS Head Coach Sherrod Gideon had to suspend 10 players for the season opener and the lack of experience showed on the field Friday night as the Indians suffered a 45-12 loss.
But sometimes things are bigger than wins and losses.
“We had some guys mess up and have to suffer the consequences,” said Gideon. “If they can’t follow team and school rules, they won’t play.”
“This week we will have our entire roster available and ready to go. Some young guys got some valuable experience Friday night,” said Gideon. “The guys played hard and just ran out of gas against a senior-laden and talented Callaway team. We had five turnovers and that was costly.”
Yazoo City travels to Humphreys County this Friday.
