A Yazoo City man was shot and killed last Saturday in the community’s first homicide of the new year.
Cornelius Stuckey, 33, of Grady Avenue, was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds by an emergency room doctor at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Yazoo at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, according to Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers.
Justin Lontrell Williams, 19, has been charged with murder. John Melvin Jones, 20, has been charged with accessory after the fact. Both remained at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility as of press time.
Dispatch received a report of the shooting around noon on Jan. 3 from the Shady Lane area. Yazoo County deputies responded to the area and found Stuckey with gunshot wounds.
“Deputies found the victim laying in a vacant lot in the 700 block of Corine Booker Drive, formerly Shady Drive,” Shivers said. “Deputies immediately began life-saving procedures. When first responders and EMS (Pafford) arrived, they continued their efforts. The victim was rapidly taken to the local hospital.”
Shivers said Stuckey was later pronounced dead at the local emergency room from multiple gunshot wounds. He added that the body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy is slated to be performed next week.
“Our deepest condolences are extended to the family and loved ones during this difficult time,” said Sheriff Jeremy McCoy. “This investigation remains ongoing.”
