The Manchester Academy Mavericks were riding high for a half Monday night against St. Aloysius and appeared destined for a Senior Night win.
The Flashes, however, mounted a furious second half comeback and pulled out a ten-point, 50-40 victory.
Holding a 9-8 lead after one quarter, the Mavs began to pull away in the second quarter and, after outscoring St. Al 15-7 in the frame, led 24-15 at the half.
Manchester got three three pointers from Epperson Kelly, Demond Collum and A.J. Ingram to open the third quarter on a 9-0 run, giving them their largest lead of the night at 33-15 and prompting the Flashes to call a timeout.
When play resumed, St. Al began to slowly chip away at the MA lead, going on an 18-3 run over the last five minutes of the quarter to trail by just three, 36-33, with one quarter remaining.
With 7:04 left to play the Flashes took their first lead of the game, 37-36, and never looked back.
They went on to outscore MA 13-4 down the stretch to seal the come-from-behind win.
Senior guard Collum led the Mavs with 21 points and seven rebounds, followed by senior forward Adam Edgar with five points and eight rebounds.
Other scorers were Ingram with six, Quinn Wright with five, and Kelly with three.
MA traveled to Delta Streets for a boy’s only game Tuesday and begins district play next week.
