Local deputies partnered with state agencies last week to conduct a mass saturation patrol within the community, resulting in 14 arrests. From narcotic arrests to recovering illegal weapons, Sheriff Jeremy McCoy said such partnerships will continue in the future.
Last Wednesday, the saturation patrol was conducted by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The patrol and safety checkpoints were conducted throughout Yazoo County.
Fourteen arrests were made, including:
• Driving Under the Influence, eight arrests
• Driving Under the Influence Refusal, one arrest
• Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, one arrest
• Tampering with Evidence, one arrest
• Possession of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, five arrests
“There were three illegally possessed weapons also taken off the street,” McCoy said. “One AR-15 style weapon had a ‘switch’ installed on it with over 50 rounds of ammunition. These kinds of weapons are very dangerous, and we are glad to be able to successfully get them off the streets.”
McCoy said saturation patrols will continue in the future with assistance from state agencies.
