It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Robert Cecil Oliver, who departed this life on Sept. 8, 2025 in Benton, Miss. at the age of 86.
Robert was born on May 6, 1939 in Chelam, Washington. From a young age, he demonstrated a deep passion for sports and a strong sense of dedication that would carry him through every chapter of his life. His early love for hockey led him to play semi-professionally in 1955, including participation in the Little Savage Cup tournament, an experience that remained a point of pride throughout his life. His athletic pursuits extended to football as well. He tried out for the Oakland Raiders, a testament to his talent and determination.
Robert proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956-1962. In recognition of his service and devotion to his country, his ashes will be buried at sea, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much in service and spirit.
Beyond his accomplishments and services, he had a family that he loved. He shared 43 cherished years with his beloved wife, Dorothy Oliver. His first marriage to Lynn brought him two children, Michael Oliver (Betty) and Machell Aldrich (Mike). His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Ashley Ballensky (Troy), Bryce Marsh (Kelbee) Courtney Martinez (Eric) and Sydney Greathouse (Bryant); and seven great grandchildren, Hallie, Smilie, Amiah, Mauston, Daxton, Leyton and Maisie; sister, Norma Osterback of Spokane, Washington; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Oliver; mother, Marie Younger; and brothers, Bill and Darrell Oliver.
Services will be performed by Rev. George Woodliff III at Trinity Episcopal Church, 323 N. Main St. in Yazoo City, Mississippi on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025 at 3:30 p.m.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
