City leaders have granted a seven-year tax abatement for a popular dining establishment to open its newest branch on Jerry Clower Boulevard.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the tax abatement request last week from Jack’s Family Restaurants. Based on the proposal provided by Jack’s, the seven-year tax abatement, which covers property taxes, would equal a total amount of about $317,095. However, the business would also bring 40-50 team member positions with four to six managers with an annual payroll ranging from $500,000 to $600,000.
Jim Avery, vice president with Jack’s, appeared before the city council during its open board meeting last week to announce the company’s interest in the former Dairy Queen and Delta Tire sites on Jerry Clower Boulevard. The two parcels will be transformed into a 3,600-square foot restaurant with 68 seats inside and rocking chairs under a covered porch outside. The parking lot is also slated to hold about 40 spaces.
“These tax abatements will help us with that high initial investment and with the costs to be able to bring a Jack’s to your community,” Avery said.
Jack’s Family Restaurants have over 250 locations in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi. Each location is also corporately owned and operated.
“Mississippi holds significant potential for Jack’s growth over the next two years,” their proposal to the city stated. “Currently, we have opened 30+ locations in cities around the state and have several others under construction or under contract.”
Avery told city leaders the restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with the hours of 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays and from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
“We pride ourselves of being a Southern-based restaurant,” Avery said. “We pride ourselves on being a Southern inspired experience to our customers. We are known for our handmade biscuits that we make from scratch. And for lunch and dinner, we serve chicken, chicken fingers and hamburgers, sandwiches and more. We even serve hand-dipped ice cream, which makes us more unique from most fast-food restaurants.”
Jack’s proposal not only highlighted a local job-base but also its commitment to community involvement and engagement.
“Jack’s will bring high quality quick service food to Yazoo City, opening jobs for those within the community,” the request stated. “Jack’s recognizes the importance of community involvement. Whether it be through a holiday parade or a charity donation, their presence goes far beyond the restaurant walls.”
The city board approved the tax abatement request, welcoming Jack’s Family Restaurants to the community. No discussion was had, however, on the time frame of construction and opening.
