With a house and vehicle now riddled with bullets from last week’s shooting, a Yazoo City resident said her home is being used as shield from gunfire in the Meadow Brook area. Last Wednesday’s shooting in the area prompted a female resident to appear before the city leaders, pleading for help for her neighborhood that she said is falling victim to the recent gang activities and shootings.
“It has been an ongoing problem with whatever this East Side, West Side hoopla is,” the Meadow Drive resident said, during Friday’s city council meeting. “They use our homes as shields. We should not have to live like this here in Yazoo City. I need help.”
The resident said she has lived at her Meadow Drive home since 2009. She admits that there have always been issues within her neighborhood. But she said last Wednesday’s shooting directly impacted her and her family.
“My house was used as a shield,” she said. “I received two shots in my bedroom where I had just asked my grandchildren to leave out the room because they were getting ready to go with their mothers. The bullets are lodged where my headboard was, where I was sitting. I stood up when I heard my daughter’s car window explode.”
The resident said someone was standing behind her house, firing shots. Her daughter’s vehicle was also “riddled with bullets.”
“Her car is completely riddled with bullets,” the resident said. “Had the cars not been directly in front of the house, I am sure we would have some fatalities inside our home. Something must be done about these senseless shootings.”
The resident said it seems as if her neighborhood is a traffic area from some of the issues occurring at the Willow Wood apartment complex.
“When you come home, you want to be safe,” she said. “It’s the adults who come up and down the street. They target that area because they can do what they want. Willow Wood comes right beside my home. It has always been a traffic area for them.”
The resident urged the city council to address her concerns, adding that she and her neighbors should not have to live this way.
