Benton Academy ended the regular season with a much-needed win with a 58-0 blanking of Rossville Christian.
As fortune would have it, the 1-9 Raiders will host Delta Streets this week for the first round of the playoffs.
Benton enters the playoffs with the momentum after the win over Rossville.
James Patterson grabbed an interception on the first drive of the game to set up a touchdown on a 27-yard quarterback keeper by Waylin Dewitt. Evan Michael Williams added the PAT kick for a 7-0 lead.
On the following drive the Wolves rolled the dice and tried for a fourth down conversion only to be stopped in the backfield by Gavin Scoby and Rudy Appleton for a turnover on downs. Dewitt connected with Garrett Vandevere for a first down pass, and Daniel Washington scored on a six-yard carry. Scoby added the two point conversion for a 15-0 lead.
Nathan Bigford and Cody Woodham came through with a sack on second down on the next drive. Collin Washington then got an interception, but the officials ruled that Rossville would maintain possession of the ball due to a chop blocking penalty against BA.
Daniel Washington scored on a 64-yard carry to extend the lead to 21-0 with 2:54 to go before halftime and Dewitt scored again on a quarterback draw for a 26-yard touchdown. Williams added the kick for a 28-0 halftime lead.
The onslaught continued in the second half as Dewitt scored on a 72-yard touchdown run, Daniel Washington had a 64-yard carry, and Collin Washington and Pierce each had a TD run.
BA will host Delta Streets (2-8) for the first round of the playoffs Friday. They defeated Benton 13-2 earlier this year.
