Manchester Academy came out swinging to take an early 4-0 lead, but Benton Academy took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as the Raiders went on to win 16-6.
James Aaron Stanford drove in seven runs on three hits to lead the Raiders at the plate.
Stanford launched a two-run homer over the left field wall in the second inning, added a three-run double in the third, and a two-run single in the fourth inning.
Jake Louis Paul drove in a sacrifice to get the Mavericks on the board first.
Adam Edgar then followed up with a three-run homer to center field that gave the Mavericks a 4-0 lead.
The Raiders responded with six runs in the bottom of the first.
Dalton Robles drove two runs with a double to start things off for BA. Tanner Vandevere stole home to cut it to 4-3.
John Salley tied the game in a close play at home where he collided with catcher Jake Louis Paul and the ball came loose. The call was hotly contested by MA coach Stacy Hester, who was later ejected from the game.
Benton extended the lead in the second inning with Stanford’s home run, and racked up five runs on four hits in the third inning.
Peyton McGlawn had an RBI double, Ethan Shanks had an RBI single, and Stanford drove in three runs with a double.
Robles and McGlawn finished the game with two hits and two RBI each for BA. Ethan Shanks had an RBI. Tanner Vandever and Baylor Creel each had a hit for BA, and Banks Nixon, Riley Powell had an RBI each.
Joseph Beidleman, Wrigley Richardson, AJ Ingram, Pierce Jones, Epperson Kelly, Reeves Gooch and Edgar each had a hit for MA.
Manchester bounced back with a 10-5 win over Tallulah on Monday. The Mavericks were set to face Yazoo County on Tuesday.
Benton hosted Newton County Academy on Tuesday. That game had not been completed by press time.
