Following his oath of service to the city of Yazoo City, the first order of business requested by newly appointed Police Chief Terry Gann was the hiring of his new assistant chief within the Yazoo City Police Department.
During Monday’s city council meeting, Gann requested that the Board of Mayor and Aldermen appoint Capt. Patrick Jaco as his new assistant chief. Jaco, a veteran law enforcement officer, served as the city’s interim police during the city council’s search for a new police chief.
“I would like for you to reinstate the assistant chief position with (Capt. Patrick) Jaco being my assistant chief,” Gann said.
“That sounds good,” replied Mayor David Starling. “Are we allowed to do that right now? Or will we have to do it at the next meeting?”
The city council agreed to discuss the matter in executive session.
“That is a great choice,” Starling continued. “I was about to say that I would be remiss if I did not say thank you to Capt. Patrick Jaco for his service during the time we were without a chief. He did an excellent job in being our interim chief and for that, Capt. Jaco, we certainly thank you.”
